August 2026Data: Captive lender programs12 min read

Sixteen models are financing at 0% APR right now, and fifteen of them hold that rate to 60 months or longer. The best structure on the board belongs to Subaru: the Trailseeker and Uncharted run 0% for a full 72 months, and the data attaches $1,500 in customer finance cash to both without gating it on a term or an eligibility check.

This ranking covers 170 live model programs across 35 brands. Every offer below was checked against its own expiration date, so nothing on this page has already lapsed. We rank by the longest usable term at the lowest APR, then read what each incentive is actually conditioned on, because this month the fine print is where the money moves.

How we read the board

The goal is the longest usable term at the lowest APR. We only count 0% programs that run 36 months or longer, because a 0% rate over 12 or 24 months carries a payment most retail buyers cannot actually use.

Two filters run before anything reaches this page. First, every rate is rebuilt from the individual program rows rather than a precomputed summary, so a model's rate ladder reflects only the terms its lender is currently quoting. Second, every row is checked against its own expiration date, because captive program windows do not line up with the calendar month and a stale row reads exactly like a live one. All 170 model programs below cleared that check.

What this data is, and what it is not

This is a snapshot of published captive lender programs, not a complete map of every offer in the country. This month's pull returned 170 live model programs, down from 277 last month, and the shortfall is uneven: Honda returned one model, Toyota eight. A model missing from this page is not evidence that its lender has no program. It usually means the pull did not reach it.

Every 0% program running right now

Sixteen models finance at 0%, spread across eight brands. Five hold the rate all the way to 72 months, which is the best payment structure in car finance: you stretch the payment on an expensive vehicle without paying a bank for the privilege. The last column matters as much as the rate itself. It shows what happens the moment you ask for one term longer than the 0% covers.

*Base MSRP is the lowest trim price the program covers, excluding destination. Pre-tax, before fees. Captive lender programs pulled for ZIP 07030, August 2026. The VinFast VF 8 price is the 2025 model year Eco AWD, the Polestar 4 price is the Long Range Single Motor, and the INEOS price is the Trialmaster and Fieldmaster editions, the cheapest the Quartermaster program covers.

Verdict: Subaru owns the 72-month tier

The Trailseeker at $39,995 and the Uncharted at $34,995 hold 0% across 48, 60, and 72 months, and both carry $1,500 in Customer Finance Cash that the data does not condition on a term or an eligibility group. That combination of a flat zero at the longest term and unconditioned cash is the strongest thing on this board.

The rate ladder: what one more year costs

Ten of the sixteen 0% programs stop short of the longest term their lender offers. Asking for the next rung up is not a small concession, and the size of the step varies enormously by brand. Genesis charges almost nothing for it. Nissan charges nearly four points.

Verdict: Take the shorter term where the step is steep

On the Genesis pair, stretching from 60 to 72 months costs 0.99%, which is close to free. On the four Nissan crossovers, the same stretch costs 3.9%. If the 60-month payment is workable, do not let a salesperson walk you up to 72 months on those cars. The extra year is where the lender makes its money back.

Rate or cash: read the incentive's name

Any listing that shows you a single "total incentives" number is hiding the most important thing about that money, which is what it is conditioned on. Some finance cash is available no matter which term you pick. Some is only paid if you take a specific term, and that term is usually not the one carrying the subvented rate.

This month the fine print says so out loud, and the pattern is not what you would guess. The two largest cash offers on the board, Audi's $10,000 on the A8 and S8 and $6,000 across the Q7, Q8, SQ7, and SQ8, are plain Customer Credit with no stated condition. It is the mid-size cash that comes tethered, and the clearest example is Nissan, where the incentive's own name gives it away.

The Nissan Rogue is the textbook case

The Rogue finances at 0% for 60 months. It also carries $2,000 in bonus cash. Those are two different deals, not one. The cash is named "72 & 84 Month NMAC APR Bonus Cash," and at 72 months the Rogue's rate is 3.9%, not zero. A listing that adds them together is describing a car you cannot buy. Decide which one you want before you walk in, and get the chosen structure written on the worksheet.

The sub-1% tier

If your target vehicle has no flat 0%, a sub-1% loan is functionally the same thing over the life of the loan. Ten models sit below 1% this month, and five of them hold that rate all the way to 72 months. The total rent charge on a 0.9% loan is a rounding error next to a market-rate loan near 6%, so do not walk away from one chasing a perfect zero.

Verdict: OPTIQ and VISTIQ carry the flattest ladder

Both Cadillacs quote 0.9% at 48, 60, and 72 months. A ladder that does not rise with the term is rare, and it means you can pick the term on payment alone instead of trading rate against it. The Subaru Ascent does the same thing at 0.9% across all three terms.

Rates that improved since July

Comparing 162 models that appear in both this month's and last month's data, eleven improved their best published rate. The Toyota bZ is the standout: it dropped nearly three points and added twelve months of term at the same time. Watch the term column, though. The Corolla and Prius rates fell, but the longest term captured for them shortened from 60 months to 48.

Why there is no matching list of rates that got worse

Fifty models in the matched set show a higher best rate than last month, but that list is not trustworthy enough to publish. When a lender offers a choice between a subvented rate and a larger cash rebate, this kind of feed often captures only the cash side and drops the rate row entirely. A model that appears to have "lost" its 0% may simply have had its other program captured this month. Improvements are safe to report because a captured low rate is real. Disappearances are not.

Brand floor: the lowest live rate per brand

This is the single best rate anywhere in each brand's captured lineup, at any term. If a brand's floor sits at 3% or higher, it is not subsidizing finance this month, and your leverage is in the price and the cash rather than the rate. Read the bottom of this table as a map of where to stop asking for a rate you will not get.

Deadlines do not follow the calendar month

Most captive programs on this board run through August 31. Five brands do not, and the gaps cut both ways. Genesis, Honda, and Hyundai carry offers dated to September 8, and Ford and Lincoln hold some rows to September 30, which means a deal that looks like it dies with the month may not. Acura runs rows at both August 31 and September 1.

This matters more than it sounds. Captive program periods are set by the lender, not the calendar, and an offer sheet that lapsed days ago looks identical to one that is still live. A rate you were promised late in the month is worth nothing if its program already closed.

Verdict: Ask for the expiration date in writing

Program end dates do not line up with the calendar month, and they do not line up with each other. Before you agree to anything, ask which program number you are being quoted and what date it runs through. Getting that date in writing is what separates a rate you can hold the dealer to from one that quietly evaporates at the desk.

Traps to avoid

Three things will cost you real money this month:

  • Cash that is gated to a term you do not want: Five Nissans advertise 0% and $2,000, but the $2,000 is named "72 & 84 Month NMAC APR Bonus Cash" and the 72-month rate is 2.9% or 3.9% depending on the model. Lexus, BMW, and Toyota run the same structure with names that say "APR Cash," "APR Credit," and "APR Subvention Cash." Ask which term the cash requires before you treat it as a discount.
  • The 72-month temptation at a real rate: Seventy-two months at 0% is fine, and five models offer exactly that. Seventy-two months at 3.9% buries you in interest and negative equity. On the Nissan crossovers those are the same car, one term apart. Stretch the term only when the rate stays near zero when you do.
  • Treating a missing model as a missing program: This month's pull covers 170 models against 277 last month, and the shortfall is concentrated in a handful of brands. Honda returned a single model, Toyota eight, Hyundai three. If your car is not on this page, ask the dealer for the current program sheet rather than assuming its lender has nothing.

Verdict: Lock the rate, then price the cash separately

Get the APR, the term, and the program expiration written down first. Then ask what cash survives that exact structure. Doing it in that order exposes any incentive that was only ever available on a different deal, which is the most common way a quoted payment quietly grows before signing.
