Every Hyundai EV got more expensive this month. All 25 of them, without a single exception.

QuoteDefender Team ·

Every Hyundai EV got more expensive this month. All 25 of them, without a single exception, from $34 a month on the IONIQ 5 N to $59 on every trim of the IONIQ 9.

The cause is lease cash, not rates. Hyundai pulled $3,000 off the IONIQ 9 SE AWD, from $18,000 down to $15,000, and $2,750 off the 2026 IONIQ 5 Limited AWD, from $10,000 to $7,250. Residuals improved on most of those cars at the same time. It was nowhere near enough to cover the gap.

The Lineup, Cheapest First

The 2026 Elantra SE at ~$305 is the cheapest Hyundai lease and the 2026 IONIQ 9 Performance Calligraphy Design AWD at ~$850 is the most expensive. Hyundai prices 199 leaseable trims across 2026 and 2027, so this is a selection: the cheapest and most expensive of each model year, plus the biggest mover in each.

92 trims got cheaper and 74 got more expensive. Only five held completely still, all of them 2026 Santa Cruz. Another 26 are launch programs on the 2027 Santa Fe, Santa Fe Hybrid and Santa Cruz, which have no August baseline to compare against yet.

*Pre-tax, 36mo/12K miles, Northeast region. Cap = MSRP minus the current lease cash. MSRP is the Hyundai model-code sheet price plus that model-year's freight charge. "New" marks a launch program with no August baseline. Data: Hyundai Motor Finance, September 2026.

Verdict: September Hyundai

Buy gas, skip electric this month. Every EV in the lineup moved against you while the Palisade, Santa Fe and Kona all got cheaper. If you were waiting on an IONIQ 5, an August quote is worth $50 a month more than a September one. Hold it if you still can.

These tables are one configuration.

36 months, 12,000 miles, Northeast. Your term, mileage, and state move the payment. Get your exact number, free.

What These Payments Are

Every payment here is full MSRP, nothing down, pre-tax. No discount, no trade, no money down. That makes them a ceiling, not a target. They exist so you can measure a dealer quote against the program the lender actually published, not so you can walk in and ask for one.

$1,000 off the selling price is about $30 a month at 36 months. That is the only conversion you need. A Tucson quoted at ~$332 with $2,000 off the sticker should land near $272. If a dealer shows you $310 on that same car and calls it a discount, the discount went somewhere other than your payment.

Three things move a real quote

A discount pulls the payment down at roughly $30 per $1,000. Money down pulls it down too, but you already paid that money, so it is not a saving. Tax and fees push it up, and how much depends entirely on your state. A New Jersey payment is not a California payment.

Every Hyundai EV Went Up

All 25 electric trims moved against the shopper. Not one held flat. The range runs from $34 a month on the IONIQ 5 N to $59 on the IONIQ 9, and in almost every case the residual got better while the payment got worse.

The IONIQ 9 lost $750 to $3,000 of lease cash per trim. The SE AWD took the worst of it, from $18,000 to $15,000, and the S went from $16,250 to $15,000. Hyundai flattened five of the six trims onto $15,000, with the SEL AWD just under at $14,750. The SE AWD residual improved from 54% to 56% at the same time and the car still costs $59 more, at ~$576. All six trims moved within a dollar of each other.

The 2026 IONIQ 5 lost $2,250 to $2,750 per trim. The Limited AWD dropped from $10,000 to $7,250 and the SE RWD from $9,000 to $6,750. Every one of the nine trims landed at $49 or $50 more. The 2027 cars took a smaller version of the same cut, $39 to $47.

The IONIQ 5 N got everything and still got worse

Lease cash went up $250 to $10,000. The residual went up three points to 51%. And the payment still rose $34 to ~$840, because the rate went from 0.00231 to 0.00338. That is 8.11% APR, the worst rate in the Hyundai lineup by a wide margin. One rate move swallowed two improvements.

Verdict: Wait on the EVs

Skip all three this month if you can wait. The IONIQ 5 at ~$460 to ~$626 and the IONIQ 9 at ~$546 to ~$850 are both worse than they were in August by real money. A cut this uniform across 25 trims is a program decision, not a trim-level adjustment, so it will take a program decision to reverse. Watch October.

Palisade Hybrid: The Real Discount

The 2027 Palisade Hybrid Calligraphy Black Ink FWD fell $60 a month to ~$806. No trim in the lineup fell further, and the two other 2027 Calligraphy trims matched it. The whole move is rate: Hyundai cut it from 0.00295 to 0.00234, which is 7.08% APR down to 5.62%. Lease cash stayed at zero.

All 16 trims of the 2027 Palisade Hybrid got cheaper, by $21 to $60. The 2026 car mostly followed, with the Calligraphy AWD down $58 to ~$806. The gas Palisade moved less but moved the same direction on both model years.

The 2026 Palisade SEL 8P AWD now holds a 71% residual, up from 68% and the highest in the Hyundai lineup. That should have been worth more than it was. Hyundai raised its rate from 0.00202 to 0.00236 in the same month, so the net came to just $9 down, at ~$551.

Verdict: Lease the Palisade Hybrid

This is the best thing Hyundai did in September. The 2027 Calligraphy trims are $59 and $60 cheaper than they were in August on rate alone, which means the discount is baked into the program rather than sitting in a cash rebate that can vanish. Take the 2027 over the 2026 unless the dealer has real money on the older car.

Santa Fe and Kona Got Cheaper

The 2026 Kona Limited AWD dropped $39 to ~$432 because Hyundai doubled its lease cash from $1,375 to $2,750. All eight 2026 Kona trims fell, by $15 to $39, and seven of the eight moved on cash rather than rate.

The 2026 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid fell $9 to $20 across all 21 trims. Nineteen of those came from added lease cash. This is the quiet kind of month that does not make a headline and still puts money back in the payment.

The 2027 Santa Fe is a launch program

26 trims across the 2027 Santa Fe, Santa Fe Hybrid and Santa Cruz are new to the feed this month with no August baseline. Launch rates move once the cars are actually on lots, so treat the 2027 Santa Fe SE FWD at ~$461 as provisional and re-check it before you sign.

Verdict: Kona improved the most

Outside the Palisade Hybrid, nothing in the lineup improved more than the Kona Limited AWD at ~$432. It and the Limited FWD at ~$421 are the only non-hybrid Hyundais that moved more than $21 in your favor. If you want the most cash on the hood instead, that is the Tucson at up to $5,360, but the Tucson went up this month while the Kona came down.

Elantra, Tucson and Sonata Went the Other Way

The Elantra SEL Sport Plus rose $35 to ~$334, the largest increase outside the EVs. Hyundai did both things at once: the rate went from 0.00229 to 0.0024 and lease cash was halved from $2,250 to $1,250. All six Elantra trims rose $28 to $35.

All 12 Tucson trims rose $12 to $17, and the Tucson Hybrid rose $9 to $27. The Elantra Hybrid took $20 to $28. Sonata and Venue were the only models to split, and both split the same way: the cheap trims rose $3 and the top trim fell $16.

Verdict: Still cheap, just less cheap

The Elantra SE at ~$305 is still the cheapest lease Hyundai sells and the Tucson SE FWD at ~$332 is still a lot of SUV for the money. Both are worse than August, neither is bad. If you want one, the $28 to $35 you lost is not worth waiting a month to maybe get back.

167 of 199 Trims Sit in One Rate Band

167 of Hyundai's 199 trims price between 0.0023 and 0.0024. That band is the single most useful number in this post, because it is your markup test. Hyundai Motor Finance is running one rate on almost the whole lineup, so if a dealer quotes you materially above 0.0024 on a mainstream Hyundai, that is markup and not the program.

The exceptions run both ways. The 2027 IONIQ 5 Limited AWD at 0.00025, or 0.60% APR, is the cheapest money in the lineup and carries no lease cash at all. The IONIQ 5 N at 0.00338 is the most expensive and carries $10,000. Hyundai is paying you in cash on one and in rate on the other.

Residuals span 25 points. The 2026 Palisade SEL 8P AWD holds 71% and the 2026 IONIQ 5 SE Standard Range holds 46%. That gap is most of why a $45,540 Palisade leases for ~$551 and a $36,650 IONIQ 5 leases for ~$460 despite the IONIQ 5 carrying $7,250 of cash.

Verdict: Know the band before you walk in

Ask for the money factor in writing and check it against 0.0023 to 0.0024. Hyundai allows dealers to mark the rate up, and every 0.0001 of markup costs about $4 a month on an Elantra and $10 on an IONIQ 9. That is the cheapest thing you can verify in a lease deal and the one dealers least expect you to ask about.

Four Terms, and 39 Months Is the Trap

Hyundai returned 24, 36, 39 and 48 months in the September pull. The 39 month term is the one to watch, because it costs far more than the three extra months suggest.

The Elantra SE holds 63% at both 24 and 36 months, then falls to 54% at 39. Nine residual points for three months. The IONIQ 9 S does the same thing, 54% at 36 and 46% at 39. You are paying for an extra eight or nine points of depreciation to keep the car one quarter longer.

Residual percentages at 12K miles/year, Northeast region. The September pull returned 24, 36, 39 and 48 month terms. Data: Hyundai Motor Finance, September 2026.

Verdict: Take 36 months

36 is the right term on most of this lineup, but check the car rather than the rule. The five trims above give up five to nine points at 39 months, while a handful of Santa Fe and Palisade Hybrid trims actually hold a point or two more at 39 than at 36. If a dealer steers you to 39 months to hit a payment, ask to see both.

Payment Math & Assumptions

All monthly payments in this post are pre-tax estimates based on a 36-month term, 12,000 miles per year, and the Northeast region program. Cap cost = MSRP minus the non-conditional lease cash only. No down payment, no dealer discount, no trade. Residual is applied to MSRP per the program sheet. Conditional money such as loyalty and conquest is excluded because not everyone qualifies.

MSRP is the Hyundai model-code sheet price plus freight, and Hyundai sets freight per model and per year: $1,295 on the Elantra and Sonata, $1,600 on the Kona, Santa Cruz and Palisade, $1,650 on everything else. 199 of the 201 trims Hyundai leases in September are priced here. The two held back are both 2026 Elantra N, where the feed folds the manual and the dual-clutch car onto one entry at two different residuals, so no single sticker belongs to the number.

Tax, registration, title, acquisition and dealer doc fees are excluded and vary by state. Rates and residuals are region-specific, so a Northeast number is not a California number. The IONIQ 6 and Kona Electric are 2025 model years in this month's data and are out of scope for a 2026 and 2027 pull.
